CPD Legacy

In July 2020, it was announced by Gavin WIlliamson – Secretary of State for Education that School Sports Premium funding would remain for the 2020-21 academic year.

The School Sport and Activity Action Plan set out government’s commitment to ensuring that children and young people have access to at least 60 minutes of sport and physical activity per day.

The 5 key indicators of successful budgeting:

  • providing targeted activities or support to involve and encourage the least active children
  • encouraging active play during break times and lunchtimes
  • establishing, extending or funding attendance of school sport clubs and activities and holiday clubs
  • adopting an active mile initiative
  • raising attainment in primary school swimming

The government are encouraging:

  • Pupils to take on leadership or volunteer roles - which we support through our Young Leaders' Programme
  • Increased confidence - through staff CPD, which we provide many schools already
  • hiring of qualified sports coachs
  • A broader experience of a range of sports - we build individual, idverse programmes for schools from a wide range of sports
  • schools to provide more extra-curricular activities - ask about our breakfast, lunc-time and after-school clubs as well as our Holiday Camps
  • Increased participation in competitive sport - we build in our own fixture and tournament package, targeting the least active and SEN pupils

At Primary Sports & Education we fully believe that our exceptional CPD package is what makes us unique in the Primary sector. Our CPD programmes are completely tailored to each individual school’s specific needs in order to holistically empower the class teacher. We can deliver a CPD package in all traditional and non-traditional sports.

Our Coaching Legacy

CPD/Sports Coaching Legacy is an important concept in current government physical/sports education policy.  As a consequence, Primary Sports & Education Limited actively seeks to provide a meaningful and tangible legacy in all we do in our work with school staff, pupils and parents/guardians. We are able to produce bespoke individualised programmes to meet the needs of each staff member. Below are examples of the CPD packages we can deliver.

6 Week Programme

  • The class teacher will work alongside the coach for a 6 week period on a specific sport/topic
  • Weeks 1 and 2 will require the class teacher to observe the coach and ask any questions related to their improvement
  • Weeks 3 and 4 will involve the class teacher and the coach team-teaching the lesson. This will involve the class teacher and coach teaching specific parts of the lesson in week 3 and then switching roles in week 4
  • Weeks 5 and 6 will see the class teacher delivering the lessons by themselves under guidance from the coach
  • All lesson plans are provided for the class teacher and the opportunity to talk through the lessons before and after they are delivered
  • At the end of the 6 week programme a review will take place between the coach and the class teacher to check on the success of the programme

Shadow Programme

  • This programme will involve the class teacher observing the coach throughout the duration of the lessons
  • The teacher will watch the coach deliver the sessions and check for key areas such as learning objectives, structure of sessions and differentiation delivered
  • At the end of each session the class teacher will have the opportunity to ask questions to the coach about how to implement these skills in their own practice

Developmental Focus

  • Confidence in teaching Gymnastics and Dance
  • Postive behaviour management within Physical Education
  • Planning a rolling programme across the Primary age range
  • identifing areas of development within the schools PE plan
  • Working in small learning environments
  • Different teaching styles within Physical Education
  • Differentation in Physical Education
  • Working with limited resources
  • Assessment for learning
  • Reflective practice

It’s been so worthwhile having Nathan in to support PE this term. Not only has my confidence grown in teaching hockey and football to Year 6, but he has provided me with such a range of great tricks and ideas, as well as improving my knowledge and techniques, that can be used across teaching any sport. What I have appreciated the most is how encouraging his teaching style is - I felt I could ask anything or discuss anything without being judged. The children have really enjoyed the sessions we have shared and I have actually started enjoying teaching PE again!

These are just some of the programmes we can deliver to your staff and we can deliver many others depending on your needs. Our main objective is to upskill your current staff and give them the confidence required to deliver outstanding lessons independently under the Ofsted criteria on a regular basis.
