Leadership Team

The company directors make up our leadership team. With a wealth of teaching and coaching experience between them, they are able to support, mentor and develop the whole coaching team across Sport, Music and Forest School. Each director holds a current Level 3 safeguarding qualification as well as Level 2 Paediatric first aid.

Marc Troman

Marc is the owner of Primary Sports and the company are into their 10th year of trading. Over the last decade he has progressed the company into one of the leading sports providers in the South West and has built an outstanding reputation. 

Marc graduated in 2009 with a Sports Coaching and conditioning degree from Hartpury College (University West of England). He is UKCC Level 2 qualified in Football, Cricket and Dodgeball and is the designated safeguarding lead for Primary Sports after completing his Level 3 safeguarding qualification in 2015. He has taught a wide range of other sports and activities to all age ranges and abilities including children with special needs. His strengths are his behaviour and classroom management strategies as well as his excellent work ethic and organisation. Marc has had experience of being involved in a professional environment with Plymouth Argyle where he represented them at youth level and is now a keen runner and completed the London Marathon in 2016 running for the Children Trust Charity. He also ran the Edinburgh Marathon in 2017 raising funds for The Beacon Primary School in Exmouth. During the Summer he plays for Budleigh Salterton Cricket Club who play in the A division of the Devon Cricket leagues. 

Connor Bryan

Connor Bryan graduated from Cardiff Metropolitan University studying Sport and Physical Education and has now become the Director of Primary Sports and Education (South Devon) Ltd. Connor is a Level 2 Cricket Coach and and has taught a wide range of other sports and activities to all age ranges and abilities including children with special/behavioural needs. His strengths are his behaviour and classroom management strategies as well as his excellent knowledge and clear understanding of the curriculum. Connor is also a Thrive Practitioner. He has played for Devon County Cricket Club since the age of 15 and currently plays for Paignton Cricket Club 1st XI where he successfully captained the team to promotion in 2013.

Tia Sloman

Tia has a degree in Sport Development and Coaching at the University of St Mark and St. John, in which she achieved a 2.1. During her degree she completed modules in coaching children in sport, sport health fitness and coaching for children.  Tia runs the North Devon franchise alongside her sister Jemma. She has represented Devon in tennis and has completed her level 3 tennis coaching qualification. Tia runs a development programme at Tarka Tennis centre in Barnstaple as well as leading a number of programmes in schools in Mid Devon for the company. Tia has a great work ethic and her enthusiasm towards the development of children is superb.

Jemma Sloman

Jemma is a Level 2 Tennis coach and has represented Devon in all age groups as well as South West of England at the British College Finals. She runs the North Devon franchise alongside her sister Tia. Jemma delivers a whole range of programmes to schools in North Devon and also coaches at the Tarka Tennis Centre in Barnstaple. Jemma has spent time in Romania coaching tag-rugby to children in different primary schools for the Tag Rugby Trust and has a desire to develop and progress children in a wide range of sports!

James Jarad

James Jarad

James graduated from the University of Gloucestershire in 2011 with a degree in Applied Sport and Exercise studies and runs the West Dorset Franchise of Primary Sport and Education. James has been working in Primary schools since he graduated, initially working as a TA before moving into sports coaching in 2013. James is UKCC Level 2 qualified in Football and Dodgeball as well as being a fully qualified rounders umpire. He has a passion for working with children in Sport and has run several multi sports holiday clubs with great success. James specialises in the organisation of sports tournaments within the company and has organised several tournaments and school inter-house competitions with precision. In addition, James is qualified as a designated safeguarding lead having completed the level 3 safeguarding course in March 2018. James is also an experienced football referee having officiated up to semi-professional standard and is currently officiating on the National Futsal League and the newly formed National Futsal Series.

Ellen Blackwood

Ellen Blackwood

Ellen has graduated with a Sport, Physical Activity and Exercise degree from Durham University and is now studying for a Masters at Exeter University. Ellen runs part of the Dorset franchise and has now started our newest venture, Primary Forest Schools & Sports Education. She is a Level 2 qualified Basketball Coach, Level 1 Netball and Volleyball, and also a fully qualified sailing instructor as well as holding the Forest Schools qualification. Ellen has several years of coaching experience and led sessions in a variety of sports including multi-skills, athletics, dodgeball and rocket ball. She has spent 6 weeks in Zambia coaching netball, basketball and volleyball and 2 months in America working in an underprivileged camp as a lifeguard and swim teacher. Her strengths are being adaptable within her sessions and ensuring the participants are having fun whilst learning. Ellen’s own sporting background consists of playing National League basketball, and playing locally in netball and basketball whilst taking a leisurely approach to sail when she can.

Fay Nelmes

Fay is the Director of Primary Music & Education (, our sister company which provides specialist whole-class music provision in primary schools across the region. Fay graduated from The University of Liverpool with a BA(Hons) in Music and a PGCE in Primary Education with Music specialism from Exeter University, and has been a primary school teacher for over 20 years. She has worked as a peripatetic music teacher since 1997. She provides valuable mentoring and support to our newer coaches to aid their development in both an educational and pastoral sense. She also has developed our online assessments and delivers training to coaches. As a cellist, Fay's main specialism is strings but she also is a highly trained classical singer, formerly singing with the New Chamber Singers in Rome, and other instruments include piano, guitar, bass guitar and drumkit. She also specialises in composition.

Fay is the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead for Primary Sports.

Greg Mugford

Greg Mugford

Greg is a Level 3 football & Multi-Skills coach with a huge passion for working in and around a KS1 and KS2 environment. He has previously had experience of working with Sporty Stars and Premier Sports before taking the role with us in January 2018. He has a very enthusiastic coaching style so each child can enjoy their learning in a positive coaching environment. He is always striving to improve and adapt sessions to individuals needs and most importantly have fun! Greg will be delivering our CPD, extra-curricular, Fun Fit and tournament/fixture programmes to school across Dawlish and Newton Abbott.

In 2019 Greg became head of coach development for the company. This allows him to provide individually-tailored support to each coach and to make sure they are making the best progress possible within their own coaching. His own style of coaching is tailored to every single class and being able to differentiate to the higher and lower ability children, in a structured and safe environment with the main focus on enjoyment and fun.

Lead Coaches

Our Lead Coaches are expected to deliver all our programmes across the whole range of the Physical Education Curriculum. Lead coaches will also be responsible for assessing each child at the end of each half term through our unique Online Portal System assessment process. Lead coaches have the opportunity to run their own Holiday Camp provision whereby they are able to invite pupils from other schools in the area to enjoy several days of planned activities out of term time.

Milena Benedetto

Milena graduated from University of Plymouth after having studied Sport Coaching, Development and performance. Milena has had coaching experience from a very young age assisting coaching in ice skating. Now based in Weymouth Milena has had experience coaching a wide range of sports and has gained a Level 1 Tennis coaching qualification as well as a level 2 Health and Fitness instructors qualification.

As well as having experience in coaching sports she has gained experience in coaching PE in schools coaching children of all ages and abilities including children with SEN needs where she has gained experience and qualifications.

Lily Nichols

Lily is a Level 1 qualified swimming teacher and is currently working towards her Level 2. She has competed in swimming at a county, regional and national level and has also represented Great Britain in Surf lifesaving where she has achieved several medals at European and World level.

In 2016, she delivered a voluntary swim programme in South Africa to children of all different ages, backgrounds and abilities. She studied in Sports Coaching and Development National BTEC at Petroc in North Devon.

Lily will be working in North Devon and is looking forward to sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm for the passion of sport with the children in order for them to progress and enjoy their sessions.   

Joanna Hill

Jo graduated with a Sports Development (Physical Education) degree from Plymouth Marjon University in 2017. She is ASA Level 2 Swim Teacher, RLSS Lifesaving Instructor and EH Level 1 Hockey having taught a wide range of activities to all range of ages and abilities.

Her strengths are inclusion of all children and behaviour management. She has played to a high standard in hockey across the South West with ISCA hockey, receiving Top Goal Scorer for the last 4 full seasons she has played.

Nathan Keast

Nathan is in his 7th academic year working for the company and with the help, support and guidance from primary sports has developed into a rounded coach.
Nathan has qualifications in football, tennis, athletics and rounders amongst others and enjoys delivering all aspects of the national curriculum to children in EYFS, KS1 & KS2.
Nathan has a positive teaching approach which encourages guided discovery so the pupils can learn and make progress themselves from their own experiences within the lessons. He leads large scale CPD sessions, PPA cover, gifted and talented to 1:1 interventions, Nathan is able to deliver these all to a high standard.

Adam Bilcock

Adam joined the company in September 2016 and has made substantial progress in a short period of time. Adam is able to differentiate his lessons to meet the needs of both KS1 & KS2 children. Adam enjoys teaching a range of indoor and outdoor activities and can plan to challenge both the high and low ability pupils in a range of sports.

Adam comes from a sporting background having represented Devon and Exeter City in football up to the age of 16. Adam currently plays for Crediton United FC and also excels in tennis and cricket. 

Lee Evans

Lee is a Level 2 Football coach with several years of experience and a passion for sport and improving children’s achievements. He began coaching at Ilfracombe Arts College where he gained valuable knowledge in a wide range of sports and activities whilst also developing his own coaching style. He has also previously worked for Arsenal Soccer Schools and Torquay United FC delivering holiday camps, after school clubs and advanced development sessions. During this time he also delivered primary school PE workshops as well as a London 2012 Olympics-themed workshop for children through the National Lottery. His strengths are being able to innovate sessions to meet all the needs of the children and creating a fun atmosphere to engage in learning. He currently plays football for Okehampton Argyle in the Devon & Exeter Premier League. Lee will be delivering a number of programmes across schools in Devon and Somerset.

Connor Ashworth

Connor has been with the company for 3 years and is currently studying to become a primary teacher at Marjon University. After 2 trips to Melbourne playing and coaching cricket over the past 5 years, Connor now plays back at his home club Paignton whom last year finished second in the Devon Premier League. Connor has a wide knowledge of a variety of sports including; Handball, Volleyball and Tennis. His main strengths are his patience, enthusiasm and ability to adapt to new schools and situations. 

Greg Hooper

Greg joins us from Exeter City Community Trust where he gained
valuable experience working in different primary schools across Exeter
and East Devon. Greg is a qualified tennis and football coach and has
a BSc (hons) in Sports Studies along with a PGCE in Primary Education.
Greg has a passion for all sports but particularly excels
in coaching football, cricket, tennis and basketball. Greg enjoys
working with children of a primary school age as he believes pupils
are enthusiastic and competitive which reminds him of what he was like
at school. Greg has played football at University 1st team level and
represented various clubs around Devon. He currently plays football
for Uplowman F.C in the Devon and Exeter district league.

Greg is currently undertaking his football level 2 coaching licence. To coincide with this, Greg has taken up a role with Moors FC under 7's. Greg values the opportunity of working in the community and hopes to inspire the next generation of budding footballers. He believes in installing the right attitude and mindset to develop children into becoming well rounded people alongside the main focus of developing their sporting ability.

Lloyd Murrin

Lloyd is one of our new shadow coaches and have been working with us since March 2019. He brings a wealth of experience to our team as he previously worked as a TA at a primary school for 6 years working with SEN children and delivering sports programmes to foundation children. Lloyd has a great work ethic and attitude towards his role and is a positive role model for children. Lloyd currently holds a Level 1 coaching qualification in Football, Rugby and Cricket and runs one of the junior teams at Budleigh Salterton Cricket Club in East Devon. He studied at Exmouth Community College and achieved his National diploma in Sports Education, coaching and fitness. He recently returned from South Africa after spending the winter playing Cricket in Cape Town before returning to captain Budleigh Salterton 1st team. He has represented Devon in both Cricket and Rugby at junior level.

Ellis Holt

Ellis started working for Primary Sports and Education in September 2019. He is a qualified primary school teacher as well as Level 2 Dodgeball Coach, Archery Instructor and Level 1 Kayak Coach. He has a lot of experience delivering coaching sessions through his time running an outdoor adventure activity centre for children. Ellis has a huge passion for working with children and seeing them develop and thrive outside while ensuring their progression. He combines his experiences inside and outside the classroom together in his sessions to bring a unique coaching style in a safe and structured environment.

Dan Vile

Dan has graduated with a Science in Sport degree from the University of Bath. The degree focused on several key aspects and principles of sport - integrating theoretical concepts with the performance aspect of sport, with a particular focus towards football.

Dan enjoys studying and participating in many sports. Prior to University, Dan completed a two year football scholarship with Fleetwood Town F.C., working as a full-time footballer whilst carrying out a Level 3 BTEC and an NVQ in Sport and Excellence. He also has an FA level 2 qualification in coaching football. Alongside university, his football commitments involved playing for the University Men’s 1st team and for a local semi-professional team that compete in the Western League Premier Division.

Dan has coached a range of sports and activities, working with various ages and abilities across primary schools. Helping children to become and stay active and find their purpose in an activity and or sport is a key aspect of Dan’s coaching. He has also spent six months managing the football 1st team at Rochdale Sixth Form College." Dan aims to continue to develop his coaching through training, observations and experience. He will also look to positively enhance the satisfaction and output of the children that are involved during his sessions.

Jon Gregory

Jon has been a sports coach for the past 12 years since graduating from the University of Southampton with a degree in Sports (BSc). He has coached football teams in both Hampshire and Dorset, and has spent 7 years coaching in the USA from pre-school age to college teams. Jon plays cricket in the summer for Swanage Cricket club and also currently coaches the men's first team at Swanage Town FC. Jon believes that all his sessions should be fun for children taking part, and that sport and activity should play a key role in the lives of young people.

Rob Allen

Rob recently graduated from Bournemouth University with a degree in Sports Management, in which he achieved a 2.1. Rob currently holds a Level 2 Tennis coaching qualification, with experience in America coaching the tennis programmes at a summer camp. As part of his degree, he spent a placement year working as a PE teacher at a North Devon School, coaching a range of sports and activities while also assisting with year 11 & sixth form sports science courses. Rob enjoys participating in many sports from tennis to football and is now a keen runner, he completed the 2019 Bournemouth marathon running for the Alzheimer Society.

Andrew Heapy

Andrew graduated with a BA (hons) degree in Sports Coaching Science and Development from the University of Worcester whilst coaching for a number of different football academy's including West Bromwich Albion and Cheltenham town FC, here he progressed the children through the PDA and PDC centres, After graduating from university, Andrew became a academy coach out in America, here he ran soccer camps whilst coaching for a number of teams which had close links with the MLS. 

Since Andrew's return from the states he became a health advisor and community coach in the West Midlands, the role enabled him to facilitate age appropriate health awareness units, plus work closely with primary school staff in CPD coaching in P.E. Andrew strives towards making sure that every child has a positive experience in P.E  and making sure that they learn at a pace which is a adequate form them. In his spare time Andrew is a level 4 football referee and is often found officiating in the South region of England on football games.

Charlotte Bowerman

Charlie is an enthusiastic level 3 sports coach who has experience working with children for the past 7 years. 3 years of which she dedicated to children and young adults with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. She specialises in delivering high quality gymnastics sessions after obtaining her level 2 gymnastics coaching qualification.

Charlie spent 2 months in America teaching and educating children on fitness and exercise. She has gained a level 2 diploma in active leisure for exercise professionals as well as a level 2 diploma in exercise and fitness.Her strengths are delivering a range of sporting activities and adapting those sessions to cater for all abilities within the session.

Max Gillard

Max is in his 4th year with Primary sports after being released from Exeter city’s football academy in 2015. In 2013 Max was a full-time footballer whilst also studying a Level 3 BTEC and NVQ in Sport and Excellence at Exeter College. Max is a Level 2 Football Coach and has a wealth of experience and knowledge of teaching invasion games. After he left Exeter City, he joined Exmouth Town Football club and was instrumental in helping his side gain promotion last season. He enjoys all sports, whether its teaching, participating or observing. His main aim is to inspire and develop all children to develop to their full potential.

Ed Doble

Ed is currently studying at Cardiff University studying Sports management but has a passion for sports coaching and seeing children develop to their best ability. He has recently completed his Level 2 Cricket qualification with the ECB and runs youth programmes at Budleigh Salterton Cricket Club. Ed is currently under going a shadow programme and is working with a number of our lead coaches and has been running holiday camp provision across the County.

Shadow Coaches

Our Shadow coaches will work alongside lead coaches observing how they plan, differentiate and deliver lessons. This will allow them to improve their own practise and gain valuable experience before progressing into becoming a lead coach. After several weeks of observing and learning the practise of a lead coach, shadow coaches will then take on the responsibility of leading sessions under the supervision of the lead coach. Consistent feedback and lesson observations are provided to the shadow coach as this gives them an opportunity for improvement and to develop their knowledge and coaching styles.

Joel Ashworth

Joel is currently undertaking a shadow programme with one of our lead coaches whilst doing an apprenticeship course in sports coaching at Ivybridge College. He gained his BTEC National Diploma in Sports Development and Coaching last summer. Joel has coached a range of invasion sports to children with a vast range of abilities and thoroughly enjoyed the challenge. He will be studying for his Cricket Level 2 Coaching Award during the winter. Whilst at college he played Rugby for the Ivybridge Academy and has represented Exeter Chiefs in the AASE league. Joel currently plays Rugby for Torquay and Cricket for Paignton.

Bess Ashworth

Bess is currently studying her Level 2 rowing coach qualification and brings experience of working in school environment from her previous role as a sports coach. During her youth she represented Devon u18 at county level as well as representing her club at the World pilot gig rowing championships for the last two years. She has studied Sport Science at South Devon College as will be working part time for Primary Sports whilst studying at Marjons university in Plymouth. Bess will be used a shadow and holiday camp coach whilst working alongside our lead coaches.

Rebecca Cox

Rebecca has graduated with a Sports Therapy undergraduate degree from Hartpury University and since has returned to complete her masters Degree in Strength and Conditioning.

Rebecca has previously completed her Level 1 Football and Rugby Coaching qualifications and Level 2 Sports Leaders Award. Rebecca has a range of previous coaching experience of Primary Schools and Sports teams. Rebecca currently works in Female Semi Professional Football and has previously worked in Men’s Semi Professional Football as a Sports Therapist and Strength and Conditioning Coach. Rebecca will use this experience to bring her sports knowledge into the primary schools and work on fundamental movement skills and long term athletic development.
