Sherborne rounders tournament

On 13th July, 7 schools all over Sherborne took part in a Y5/6 rounders tournament at the Terrace Playing Fields in Sherborne. They were split into a group of 4 and a group of 3. Group A consisted of Sherborne Primary, Trent Youngs, Bradford Abbas and Bishops Caundle. Group B consisted of Sherborne Abbey, Thornford and Buckland Newton.

Group A provided us with some great moments including big hits, catches and outstanding fielding. Bishops Caundle won the group to progress to the cup Semi final, along with Bradford Abbas as the runners up, leaving Trent Young's and Sherborne Primary to battle in the plate competition.

Group B was very tightly contested between Sherborne Abbey and Thornford. The group was won by Thornford on points difference ,with Sherborne Abbey progressing in the cup competition as runners ups, leaving Buckland Newton to battle with Trent Young's and Sherborne Primary for the plate.

In the cup semifinals, Sherborne Abbey played Bishops Caundle in a thrilling encounter, with Sherborne Abbey coming out on top by 2 points. In the other semi final between Thornford and Bradford Abbas, it would be Thornford who came out on top beating Bradford Abbas by 6 points.

The plate semi final was contested between Sherborne Primary and Buckland Newton for the right to play Trent Youngs in the final. This was a rather one sided affair with Sherborne Primary coming out on top to play Trent's in the final. The final was another tightly contested match with Trent's beating Sherborne Primary to lift the plate trophy.

In the cup 3rd/4th place play off, Bishops Caundle would come away with the bronze medals, beating Bradford Abbas by half a point. The final between Sherborne Abbey and Bradford Abbas was full of swings and roundabouts with catch after catch, and out after out being recorded. When the final whistle blew, it would be Thornford who were crowned champions beating Sherborne Abbey by a 9.5 point winning margin.

A very big well done to all the teams that took part, but especially to Thornford for winning the tournament. We look forward to many more tournament in the Sherborne Pyramid next year!
